Sep. 26, ups and downs

But there's one other thing I remember,
and remembering, I keep a grip on hope:
GOD's loyal love couldn't have run out,
his merciful love couldn't have dried up.
Lamentations 3:21-22

Today has been a little discouraging after several days of progress. The medical staff has said to expect a "roller coaster" of good days followed by some that aren't. Today, they weren't able to take Adam off the respirator at all without distress. The fever that has been nagging Adam all along also seems to be up as well. The "down" after the "ups" of the last few days has been a bit hard. Please keep your prayers going--and keep supporting the family in "keeping a grip on hope." Tomorrow is another day.

Dear Children,
I know the weight of the burden you are carrying. I understand your struggle and share your sorrow, for I am with you in the midst of it. That is why I long for you to understand something important. This earthly life and its sorrows will not last forever. They will someday come to an end for you and for everyone, just as the earth itself will come to an end. But the life of the child who has trusted Jesus as Savior and known me as Father has no end. Instead, my children will move from this earthly life of sorrow into a place of unending glory beyond anything the mind can imagine. Actually, there are no words in any earthly language that can explain or prepare you for the wonder of what awaits you there. The glory of that distant time even outweighs the grief of today. For there will be a sense of completeness on that day that will satisfy the aching emptiness of today. So do not give up or give in. Have faith in the future I have prepared for you. Let me comfort you and strengthen you and bring you healing. And all the while, hod in your heart this promise of the glory yet to come.

The One who loves you,
God

Dear Rhett, Bill and boys,
I've been keeping up with the post, and only wish I could be there with you for some time. Everyone (especially mom and dad) keep telling me I am not supposed to be in a hospital right now ...
I had a wonderful visit with Tara and Tam on Saturday, and we all were of course thinking of you.
One thing I do know, I know the ups and downs can be hard, but I also know you'll keep the faith.
I love and miss you and I keep you in my thoughts and prayers constantly.
Krista

Dear Bill and Rhetta,

I can't begin to describe how grateful I am to have been able to spend Saturday night with you and to just "be' with Adam. The familiar closeness and love that I felt with you both really does prove the non-existence of time. Had it really been 10 years? Crazy!

It was great fun to remember taking Adam to the movies when he was maybe, what, about 2 years old? And what a terrible parent I would made at the time as I bought him a 24 OZ. coke which he proceeded to spill all over us. Pretty fun then and now! What a kind heart and bright spirit he has possessed from the start.

As you know, the power of prayer brings forth God's miracles and you can count on ours daily. Sheila sends her love and prayers.

All of our love to you both and to Josh and Zach,

Marcus

Shermans: Do not be discouraged --remember in this life we will have many trials but God sent his son and he has overcome the world!!! As in nearly everything we have & do, there will be "down" times. Adam is SO much stronger and can handle this short "down" time! He will keep amazing you! Always remember after you go down - you go back up!! Just keep going and continue to take care of yourself! Adam will be okay! We'll keep praying!

Love you -- The Lawlers

To all who love Adam,
Romans 15:13 says:
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

I love this verse and carry it around with me on a 3x5 card. It seemed appropriate to share it with you today. We continue to pray and believe. Love you guys,
Nancy and Stu Bright

Today Hayden had his heart catheterization and the doctor said his heart is beat up and there is nothing left to do but try some other medications. Most of you know his history. Hayden wanted to know what changes were taking place as he definitely knew something was wrong compared to how he felt a month ago so he asked for the catheterization. Now our prayers are for Hayden and Adam. I miss you Adam and will be there soon. I know your other grandparents will be there Thursday for a few days. They will be happy to see the progress. You are so blessed to have so many friends and relatives praying for you Adam. Brenda, thank you for reading the blog and keeping Adam in your prayers. Give Aunt Viola my love. She is where she belongs. You are a wonderful granddaughter. Phyllis, thank you also for your daily prayers. I won't be coming home for Mom's 95th b'day but will be there soon after I hope. I want to spend some time with Adam and need to be with Hayden. Love Mimi/Jean

Dear Bill and Rhetta,

Sandy and I keep you and your family in our daily prayers. We trust that Adam is in the palm of God's healing hands and there is no better place for him to be!

The last verse in the Psalms, 150:6, reminded me of Adam today,

"Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord."

At the Men's Retreat this weekend, we will surely lift you up in prayer, joining our hearts to ask God to bring Adam out of his coma and on to recovery.

We are thankful for your love and faith. We praise God for doctors, nurses and all the healthcare professionals who are dedicated to serving others. We know that all good things including the technology and medicine come from God. And we trust that healing will come from the Great Physician.

Praise the Lord!

John and Sandy Geary

Oh, I am sorry to hear Adam had a tough day. I am sure the days to come will be better. He must just need a little recuperative time from all that progress. That can be very taxing! I am praying and praying for all of you. I look forward to seeing what tomorrow brings from God's Healing Hands. His progress will surely return. I have to remind myself often that
God's ways are higher than ours and His vision is far and away in the future. Sending all my love,
Laura
